My Lakers Dream Scenario

So whats up with these Lakers?

The Lakers are struggling mightily right now. They are currently on a six game losing streak and still without their usual starters such as Nash and Kobe. Their record is 13-19 which puts them at the 13th place in a very competitive Western Conference.

Injuries seriously hurt the potential of this team from the get go. And now it has come to this. Mike D'Antoni has to use Kendall Marshall as their starter for today's game against the Utah Jazz because Mike has no other choice. Marshall was just recently signed a few weeks back and now he is a starter for a team with no healthy point guards.

Fig.  Kendall Marshall will start for the Lakers as of now. (credit to Lakers.com)
Updated: Lakers beat Jazz 99-110 (Jan 3 game) as Kendall posted this line 20 points 15 assists 6 rebounds. All are career highs. Impressive!

Honestly, as depressing as the injuries piling up for the Lake show and them losing so many games I still feel optimistic that my favorite team can turn it around. If not this year then maybe next year. It is because next year's draft class is loaded with talent. From Jabari Parker to Andrew Wiggins to Joel Embiid and Julius Rande, the future is bright. If there is a year where the Lakers should consider aiming high in draft, well this is the year.

So for now, I will list my dream scenario of the future for my Lakers.

1. The Lakers will get very very very lucky and land the no. 1 pick

What's not to like about this. Mitch Kupchak has the choice to pick whomever he thinks will help the Lakers right now (with Kobe gunning for a title within a 2 year window) and in the future. Jabari Parker playing for the purple and gold will certainly help the franchise moving forward.

Jabari Parker playing for the Lakers would be awesome

2. The Lakers preserve the cap space and sign other players for one year deal

Well Mitch can sign Melo if they want but I think that won't be the best option as of that moment. Melo is in his prime but he will turn 30 next year. Mitch can still work his magic and sign players to one year deal same as he did this year with Wesley Johnson and others.
I am not quite sure if Pau would be willing to take a pay cut but I think he still loves the organization that he would be willing to resign with them for less money.

Will this team up ever happen?

3. Use the remaining money to sign Kevin Love in 2015

By that time Kevin Love would be 27 years old. Same age when Dwight arrived to LA. He is still young enough to propel a Lakers squad into contention with the right pieces added. By that time Kobe may be entering his final year as a pro and Kevin can lead the team thereafter (Of course together with Jabari Parker if that ever happens)

Kevin Love should be the target free agent in 2015

Projected Line Up in 2015
PG probably Goran Dragic
SG Kobe Bryant
SF Jabari Parker
PF Kevin Love
C Pau Gasol

Bench: Nick Young, Farmar, Johnson and others...

Well it may be delusional but then again its just a dream scenario. As for now we Laker fans can just dream.
